The funeral of Peter Collins Chair of RotherFed between 2006 and 2015 was held  on Thursday 18th May 2017 at Rotherham Crematorium.

So recognisable to anyone in Rotherham – everyone knew Peter Collins by his long bushy beard and his collar worn following a serious accident in a hospital lift in the 1980s.  He had to retire from work  but this and a number of recurrences of cancer, did not stop Peter being active and involved.

Peter was a man of thought and principle. He believed passionately in public service and he had strong values and beliefs. He was chair of RotherFed from 2006 to 2015 provided the clear leadership and a calm authority that gave us direction. Tenant empowerment and tenants rights were close to Peter’s heart. His housing expertise and interest continued right to the end – he was still reading copies of Inside Housing during his final weeks.

A real ale aficionado, Peter was known as the vicar on the ‘tickers’ circuit, people who go around the country drinking and scoring the many different real ales available. Fortunately for Peter, in his final  years the real ale industry has had a fantastic revival particularly in Sheffield where there are  now many new microbreweries.

Peter was not a yes man.  He was an independent and friendly man and we will all miss him.
